I am fortunate to be married to my best friend of 28 years, Samuel Glass, who teaches AP Chemistry in San Antonio. Life is never dull and we can often be found in the garage, working on new mechanisms to use in his classroom. Most recently, we've embarked on the construction of a Fire Vortex and we hope to have it completed by the end of the year. (We'll post a video when it's done!)
Thirteen short years ago, we were blessed with a son, Alton, who is my pride and joy. Alton is in 7th Grade in a Technology Magnet Program and he's enjoying his second year in Symphonic Band. We're all looking forward to the challenges of High School and beyond.
While we love to travel, we've been waiting for Alton to get a bit older before we travel out of the United States. For now, we've been content with visiting Disney World at Christmas to enjoy the cool weather and reasonable crowd levels.
I am an officer in a local social organization, Doctor Who Fans Unite (The Gallifreyan Expatriates Society). We gather together monthly in a local theatre to watch episodes of the long-running series, which premiered in November of 1963.
We also sponsor a variety of charity events throughout the year. Our two annual events are the SanJapan Blood Drive to benefit the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center and the Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics. The 2017 Blood Drive was our largest event and we broke our three-day collection record, with 242 units going out to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey!
In 2018, we'll be kicking off an additional event, Who's in Jeopardy, a quarterly trivia contest with the proceeds benefiting the winner's choice of charity organization. We'll be making the completed trivia boards available on our organization website for other Doctor Who fan groups around the world to use.
We're always looking for new activities to benefit our community!
